Some new images that arrived on Steam Forum, Modern Warfare 3 will be getting 5 more prestige levels. You guys can check out the image below, and there is room from prestige 11-15. Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling has confirmed on his personal Twitter account that 400 new levels and five prestiges have been added to PC version of MW3. This addition will be made to the console version in coming days. On Twitter, Bowling wrote, "Added 400 new ranks of 5 new Prestige levels in Modern Warfare 3 on PC in latest patch. Expect the same on consoles soon for everyone! #MW3" Interestingly, 10 new prestige emblems have been added to the game files as well, according to Charlie Intel (see image below). Bringing the total number of prestige levels to 20, not 15. We still don’t know if levels 15 through 20 are accessible or not, but we’ll keep you posted as we learn more.

Xbox 720 pre-owned games block 'would be fantastic,' says dev

The next Xbox's rumoured move to block used games would be "a fantastic change for our business," says Volition designer Jameson Durall. Writing via the AltDevBlog, the Red Faction: Armageddon man claims the general public don't appreciate how much pre-owned game sales are hurting developers, and welcomes rumours that the Xbox 720 could introduce a platform-wide online pass system - throttling the pre-owned market. "There's another big rumor about the next Xbox console that could really start to shake things up... it won't play used games at all," Durall writes. "Personally I think this would be a fantastic change for our business and even though the consumers would be up in arms about it at first... they will grow to understand why and that it won't kill them." He adds: "The system is already there for Microsoft, all they'd have to do is use the DLC and codes model they have to tie a game to your Xbox live account.

"Each retail disc would likely need that unique key somewhere in the code so the account would be able to link it properly. Ideally it would tie a full version to the console it is registered on so family members can play even if the main account isn't signed in, but this is exactly how their model works now anyway." The designer admits the proposed system would have faults, but goes on to suggest issues such as game rental and lending games to friends could be ironed out by Microsoft. "I could see Microsoft implementing their own rental service which would maybe give them a code that activates the game for X days and they are charged a small amount," he says. "This could work when you borrow the disc from someone or even with digital download of the full version. It would also send a percentage of the rental to the Developer with each rental... likely improving the overall revenue we would receive from it."

Gface, Crytek-backed streaming game network, goes into beta

05 Feb 2012

No longer content with making incredibly technologically advanced games, Crytek is going after the casual space with a browser-based, social gaming platform called Gface (so that's what that trademark was for!), developed and maintained by an affiliate, also called Gface. Gface is sort of like a game-focused Facebook: a cross-platform social network designed to facilitate playing casual or hardcore, 2D or 3D games with people, and finding more people to play with. Games are delivered through a plugin based on the "Seed Engine," enabling installation-free, streaming gameplay. If you're interested in checking out Gface, the company is hosting signups for a closed beta. Maybe if you get in, you can find out what the games are!

Prepare yourself for Sonic Boom 2012 at SDCC

05 Feb 2012

The House of Blues in San Diego will play host to Sonic Boom 2012 on Friday, July 13, during the San Diego Comic Con. Comic Con badges will not be required to enter the event, although what the event actually is still remains completely unknown, save for the fact that Sega's ultimate goal is to "make it a great time for Sonic fans of all ages." Last year's Sonic Boom centered mostly on Sonic Generations, prize giveaways and a musical performance by Crush 40, the greatest band in the world. If we had to guess, we'd figure that this year's Sonic Boom will focus mostly on Sonic 4: Episode 2, since that's the only pressing Sonic release on our immediate horizon. We'll be keeping our collective ear to the ground for more Crush 40 live show Sonic Boom 2012 news as it develops.
